Water Byelaws – Water Bylaws have been in force in the UK since 1823 and are set up to protect the public water main, supplied by Scottish Water in Scotland and the water undertakers in England and Wales.

The water byelaws and regulations are reviewed at least every ten years:

In Scotland – Water Supply (Water Fittings) (Scotland) Byelaws.

In England & Wales – Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations.

The water byelaws & regulations are put in place to protect the public water mains, from contamination, misuse, waste, over usage, to make sure water fittings installed are safe and do not cause or lead to erroneous measurement or reverberation (vibration/noise).

Byelaws are made locally and apply only in the area which they are made, water byelaws enforcement in Scotland is the responsibility of Scottish Water.

Water Regulations, are national regulations and are made by the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), enforcement of the regulations is placed on the water undertakers. Protech Water Services, provide guidance and surveys on current byelaw standards, which will confirm if your property is complying with the current regulations & standards.

 

Water Savings – Water savings can be made in many different ways, especially in commercial/industrial properties, from tank size reduction, systems changed to mains supplies, change central storage of hot water to local heaters and change hot water systems to instantaneous. Changes to water systems can save energy and reduce the chance of bacterial growth.

 

Maintenance – Regular checks and maintenance of plumbing systems can identify potential problems from leaking equipment, which can lead to wasted water, water damage and costly insurance claims.
